The Homestead has polished timber floors, coloured glass, a country kitchen, generous rooms and a wood fire for winter. It has been carefully restored, but it remains relaxed enough for children, muddy boots and long family meals.
The entire house is yours. Walk the property, meet the Dexter cattle, watch the sun move across the valley, or do very little at all.

Meet your hosts
A family farm,
shared by ours.
We’re Ryan and Jess. Together with our children, we are caring for Mackenzie Creek as a working family farm and continuing its long tradition of welcoming people onto the property.
That tradition reaches back to the early days of settlement, when swagmen and other travellers passed through, and continued with holidaymakers staying here in the 1970s. Today, we welcome guests to the old Queenslander in much the same spirit.
We live on the farm and are close by if you need a hand, would like some local advice or want an introduction to the cattle. If you would rather settle in and enjoy the quiet completely undisturbed, we understand that too.

We would rather you know exactly what to expect before booking. This is a genuine old homestead on a working property, not a resort.
- Cooling
- There is no air-conditioning. The house has ceiling fans and catches the breeze on the ridgeline.
- Bathroom
- The bathroom is reached by a short, covered external walk from the main house—typical of an older Queenslander.
- Connectivity
- Mobile reception can be patchy. It is a good place to switch off, but not ideal for a working holiday.
- Water
- The Homestead uses rainwater, so we ask guests to use it thoughtfully.
- Children & pets
- Families are welcome. Pets are not permitted at the Homestead; dogs are welcome at the private creek campsite.
- The property
- Mackenzie Creek is a working family farm. You may hear cattle, birds and the ordinary sounds of country life.
